Cambria Sea Scouts - Scout Section

Scouts are aged from 10 to 14 years old and meet on a Friday evening in Temple Hill in the winter. In the summer we sometimes meet on a Wednesday to take part in paddle sports on the Bridge Lake or we meet on a Friday to go sailing, rowing or powerboating at Greenhithe.

  • Maritime Skills and Adventure: Sea Scouts focus on activities like sailing, kayaking, and rowing, teaching vital maritime skills and fostering a love for the water.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Through structured activities and challenges, Sea Scouts develop leadership and teamwork skills, learning to work together and lead groups.
  • Community and Environmental: Sea Scouts dive into fun community projects and exciting environmental activities, earning badges and taking part in rewarding experiences!

What have we been doing?

Typical activities for the scouts in the summer are focused on the water. In the winter we come back to more traditional scouting activities such as camping, hiking, craft, cooking and fires.

We are a very large and active grop with around 50 scouts. As a Royal Navy Regognised group we have a very smart uniform and we expect high standards of behaviour and respect whilst still having lots of fun.

Boating

Greenhithe

We are a RYA Training Centre which allows us to run nationally recognised qualifications for our members and we teach sailing to the RYA Syllabus. We have lots of different sailing boats - the Topaz are one or 2 person dinghies, we have bigger Vibes and Argos and we also have 2 Catamarans.

Alongside the sailing we also teach powerboating and rowing at Greenhithe.

Bridge Lake

At the Bridge Lake we run sessions in Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), Kayak and Canoe.

Safety

All our sessions are delivered by either qualified instructors or scout permit holders in line with the RYA and the Scout Association rules and procedures.

Subs

Subs are £20 a month payable by direct debit. You can sign up to pay Sea Scout Subs by direct debit using this link: https://dashboard.gocardless.com/api/template_plans/0WXXSCHXRN/paylink

Uniform

The scout uniform consists of a blue jumper, black school trousers, smart black shoes and black socks. There is also a navy style hat and a white neckerchief. Uniform can be bought direct from the scouts when you join.

Badges are an important part of your time at scouts and here is a diagram from the Scout Website showing where you sew them all on. Scout Uniform Diagram
